The SPiLL Collective’s Deaf performing arts focus is inspired by Sweden’s National Deaf Touring theatre, Tyst Teater [Silent Theater]. SPiLL is currently the only Deaf theatre collective in Canada that operates and performs in four languages: French, English, American Sign Language (ASL) and la Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ). Artistic Timeline
Paula traveled with Picasso PRO to visit Tyst Teater [Deaf Theater] in Sweden.
Yannick, Tiphaine and Paula meet to discuss the future of Deaf arts and the possibilities of Deaf theatre in Canada. The sign and intention of “SPiLL” was created.
Deaf and allied artists meet to further develop this intention. These notes became SPiLL’s vision and mission.
